Keratin straightening for fine Eropean hair
This is a chemical and thermal treatment (we work in respirators💜). It straightens wavy and curly hair completely, removes the frizz and gives hair perfect smoothness and a glossy shine for 3 to 6 months. - Deep cleansing: the hair is washed with a special alkaline shampoo to strip the silicones and open the cuticle scales.
- Applying the formula: the main formula is applied strand by strand. Its active ingredient is almost always liquid keratin (hydrolysed proteins) and, critically, a stabiliser (most often formaldehyde or its derivatives, such as aldehydes or methylene glycol).
- Drying and sealing: the hair is blow-dried completely dry.
- The key stage, flat-ironing: every strand is pressed many times (up to 10 to 15) with a very hot iron (230 to 250 °C). Two key processes happen here:
- The stabiliser breaks down thermally and releases formaldehyde gas. In our salon both the stylist and the client wear special chemical respirators for the duration of the treatment ☝️.
- Sealing: under the pressure and the heat of the iron, this gas and the liquid keratin fuse into the cortex of the hair and build an artificial frame inside it, which holds the new, straight shape.
- Setting and waiting: after the treatment you must not wash your hair, tie it in a ponytail or clip it up for 2 to 4 days. This is needed for the formula to polymerise fully.
- Complete smoothness and manageability: even the curliest, most unruly hair becomes perfectly straight. The change is dramatic and immediate.
- Mirror shine: hair looks like glass thanks to the perfectly even, sealed surface.
- Low maintenance: humidity no longer causes frizz and no styling is needed. A blow-dry is enough.
- A denser, heavier feel: hair becomes noticeably heavier and root volume often disappears. For fine or thinning hair this can be a drawback.
- Longevity: the effect lasts from 3 to 6 months (until the artificial frame washes out or is cut off).
